Genesis of St.Thomas Hospital

St Thomas Hospital with a humble beginning in the year 1972. Started as a small dispensary, in a small, one room building in St Thomas Mount near the step leading to the shirne at the hill top. It has a tremendous growth at present. When the main hospital building, located in a spacious ground on the defence colony road was completed in November 1973 a 25 beded hospital was opened. By the year 1985 the main block was not enough to accommodate the patients who were flocking to St Thomas Hospital. The prestige of our doctors, dedicated services of our religious sisters and other staff members and the comperatively low charge the institution was collecting from the patients were the main reasons for such a rush.

The authorities had on the other way but to put up additional block which could accommodate another 50 patients. Inspite of the heavy cost of construction and the acute shortage of funds we were able to complete the project with the help recivied from the wellwishers of creed and charitable organization here and abroad.

The Out-Patient block was constructed in the year 1990. At present the hospital has the capacity to treat more than 400 persons per day and has a bed strength of 100. Having been equipped and manned by a team of competent specialists doctors and dedicated staff members the hospital provides comprehensive health care and treatment facilities of a vastly improved nature to the public especially the middle and poorer section of society
